Wittler, Inspector. Inspector Wittler was created by Paul McGuire (Chief Inspector Cummings, Superintendent Fillinger) and appeared in four novels from 1931 to 1937, beginning with Murder in Bostall.
Sergeant and later Inspector Wittler is a thirty-year veteran of Scotland Yard. He is a “gaunt, greying man who wore dress clothes with a native air,” is cool and cynical, and is thoroughly familiar with London’s underworld. Wittler helps Chief Inspector Cummings with his cases and occasionally solves some on his own.
