Wild Archie. Wild Archie was created by Arthur Chute and appeared in three stories in Sea Stories in 1925 and 1926, beginning with “The Avenger” (Sea Stories, Dec. 1925).
“Wild Archie” MacEacheren is a Judique Jacobite of Cape Breton, one of the “champion fighters of the North Atlantic.” He is a fisherman with an intense hatred of the Hairleggers, “ocean gangsters” and rumrunners. “Wild Archie…was a dour Gael, of the hit-first-and-talk-afterward variety…there were two hundred and eighty five pounds of Wild Archie, and judging by the way he could kick the plaster out of a nine-foot ceiling, his growl bore something of the content of a death warrant.”
