Welland, Dick. Dick Welland was created by George Schuyler (Dr. Belsidus, Dr. Cranfield, Walter Crummel, Sadiu Mattchu, Gail Reddick) and appeared in “Revolt in Ethiopia” (Courier, July 1938-Jan. 1939).

Dick Welland is a young African-American millionaire who rescues an Ethiopian princess and is drawn into helping her raise money for the Ethiopians in the war against Italy. Fights with Italian soldiers and winning treasure from the sacred mountain of Abra Destum follows, and eventually Ethiopia gets $5 million, thanks to Welland’s efforts.
