Ursus. Ursus was created by the Polish author Henryk Sienkiewicz and appeared in a novel and at least twelve films from 1895 to 1964, beginning with the novel Quo Vadis.
In Quo Vadis Ursus is an enormously strong bodyguard and slave to a Roman nobleman during the reign of Nero. In the films Ursus is a Jungle Hero, the prince of a conquered kingdom who was raised by lions. Ursus has adventures across time, fighting a human sacrificing cult, toppling tyrants, fighting the Mongols, leading a gladiator rebellion against Rome, and meeting Hercules, Maciste (I), and Sansone (in Ercole, Sansone, Maciste e Ursus: Gli Invincibili (1965)).
