Ultus (I). Ultus (I) was created by George Pearson and appeared in four films from 1916 to 1917, beginning with Ultus: The Man From the Dead; he also appeared in Spain in Ultus. El Invincible #1-6? (1936).
Ultus (I) begins as a diamond prospector who is left to die in the Australian desert by his traitorous partner, who makes away with Ultus’ diamonds. Five years later Ultus returns and avenges himself on his partner and then escapes from Conway Bass, the detective assigned to capture Ultus. In later films Ultus acts as a vigilante, repeatedly being caught by Bass and just as often escaping from jail. Ultus is the “master of a thousand disguises.”
