Tyson, Judge. Judge Tyson was created by Frederic Arnold Kummer (Richard Duvall, Shirley Holmes, Honeymoon Detectives, Octavius) and appeared in a number of stories and two novels from 1935 to 1938, beginning with “The Twisted Face” (The American Magazine, July 1935).

Judge Henry Tyson holds court in rural Doverton, Maryland. He is elderly: “seen thus in profile, the old gentleman’s fragilely handsome face, with its crown of silvery hair, made one think of a gentle and somewhat mild-mannered English curate–an impression which evil-doers, confronting the Judge for the first time, usually had occasion to revise.” Generally he is genial, placid, and given to displaying his erudition.
