Twardowski, Pan. In medieval Polish legend Pan Twardowski was a Faust figure who made a deal with the Devil. In the myth Twardowski settled on the moon and decided not to return to Poland until his country has independence again. In the Polish author Mieczys┼éaw Smolarski’s Przygoda Jednejnocy (1932) Twardowski returns to Poland but is disappointed by the ascendance of technology.
