Tugboat Annie. Tugboat Annie was created by Norman Raine (Mr. Gallup) and appeared in sixty-five stories, movies, and a television show from 1931 to 1961, beginning with "Tugboat Annie" (Saturday Evening Post, July 11, 1931).

Annie Brennan is "Tugboat Annie,” an uncouth, earthy widow who owns and runs the Narcissus, a tugboat operating in the Pacific Northwest. Besides helping people caught in storms, trapped by floods, or other natural disaster, Tugboat Annie also solves crimes and catches criminals as the situation demands. She is aided by her cook, Pinto, and has a friendly rivalry with Horatio Bullwinkle, a competing tugboat captain. In at least one later story she meets Colin Clencannon and then Mr. Gallup.
