Towne, Phil. Phil Towne was created by William R. Cox (Duke Bagley, The Bat (IV), Captain Satan, Tom Kincaid, Malachi Manatee, Patrolman Murphy, Dan Trout, John Wade) and appeared in fourteen stories in Ace G-Man Stories from 1939 to 1943, beginning with “Return Engagement With Death” (Ace G-Man Stories, Nov/Dec. 1939).
Phil Towne is a slovenly, slope-shouldered, indolent F.B.I. agent. He is also hard-bitten and is given to attending prize fights and disguising himself as a taxi driver. He is violent and is accurate with his .357 Magnum. His enemies range from ordinary kidnapers to German spies.
