Tower, Hugo. Hugo Tower was created by Victor France and appeared in The Carved Emerald (1926) and The Naked Five (1927).
Hugo Tower is the tall, muscular son of an English lord. Tower. During the war he won a D.O.S. and a V.C. in the mud of Suvla Bay, and after the war indulged his taste for adventure and in so doing won a number of friends and enemies from Montenegro to Nijni Novgorod. But he gets himself into financial difficulties through several gambling losses, and when he is approached by three of the richest men in Europe to take on a job in exchange for a handsome cash payment, Tower agrees. Of course, the job entails running a gauntlet across Europe of the deadliest murderers “International Communism” and the Soviet government can come up with, but Tower succeeds in the end.
