Tonto Kid (I). The Tonto Kid (I) was created by Henry Herbert Knibbs (Young Pete) and appeared in six stories in West and Short Stories from 1932 to 1935, beginning with “Three of a Kind” (West, Aug. 31, 1932).

The Tonto Kid (I) is a Wanted Man. With his partner Slim Akers, the Tonto Kid, a cowboy, spends months in Aguilar in Mexico, waiting for the heat above the border to die down. He is cheerful and laconic, but when he plays the guitar, every dog within hearing distance howls.
