Toft, Paul. Paul Toft was created by Douglas Newton (Dr. Dyn, Savaran, Pandora Sway) and appeared in sixteen stories in Pearson’s (U.K.) from 1932 to 1936, beginning with “The Strange Case of the Locked Chest” (Pearson’s, Jan. 1932).

Paul Toft is a British policeman who relies on intuition to solve his cases. He works at Stripe Police Station, where he is called “ifill” by his colleagues, because he often says “I feel” as a demurral. “Ignoring the usual assistance given by clues, circumstantial evidence and so on, he brings an uncanny sense of intuition to bear on a case, generally with success, and often to the embarrassment of his superior officers.”
