Tierney, James. James Tierney was created by John A. Moroso (Jimmie Calvert, Grantham Waldron) and appeared in eleven stories in The American Boy and two novels from 1921 to 1939, beginning with The People Against Nancy Preston.
James Tierney is a private detective in New York City. He used to be a policeman, known as “Bonehead Tierney” and “Solid Ivory,” but as a private detective and operator of “James Tierney, Incorporated” he is among the best and most successful in the city. His agency employs agents with a wide-ranging variety of talents. For himself, he is “stolid and without imagination…but his brain was a sensitive plate and his eye the lens of a photographic machine.”
