Terrel, Timothy. Timothy Terrel was created by “Stephen Maddock,” the pseudonym of the Australian author J.M. Walsh (Bromley Kay, Oliver Keene, Colonel Ormiston, Inspector Quaile, Jack Sanders, Inspector Storm), and appeared in eighteen novels from 1933 to 1946, beginning with Woman of Destiny.
Timothy Terrel is an agent of British Intelligence. He reports to Colonel Blount, in Whitehall, and is active around Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, dealing with the Black Hand, fascist spies, German agents, and Communists. He is a very human spy–he’s wry, capable in combat and clever enough on a case but vulnerable to realistic fears and worries. He has a healthy relationship with his wife Jane, a fellow spy who retired once she married him.
