Tamar. Tamar appeared in a number of stories in The Startler in 1931, beginning with “Who Shall Be King?” (The Startler, May 16, 1931).
Tamar is a Jungle Hero. Tom Saunders is a muscular, athletic Englishman whose son Tamar is raised by a tribe of tree-dwelling Indigenous small people. When the Tree Men, as the small people call themselves, lose their leader, they elect Tamar as their chief, and he leads them in a never-ending fight against evil and wild animals.
