Sturm, Count. Count Sturm appeared in a number of stories in The Startler in 1931, beginning with “Cut Down!” (The Startler, Jan. 17, 1931).

Count Sturm is “the Firebrand of Europe,” the tyrannical leader of the Germanic, North Sea state of Dhorvak. Dhorvak is terrorizing its neighbors and threatening even Britain, and Sturm is largely the reason why. He commands remote-controlled ships and an enormous, technologically advanced battleship, but his Yellow Submarine is the worst of all. Of course, he is eventually defeated by two plucky British lads.
