Stranleigh, Lord. Lord Stranleigh was created by Robert Barr (Eugene Valmont) and appeared in twenty-two stories and serials and four novels and short story collections from 1907 to 1913, beginning with “The King’s Move into the City” (The Saturday Evening Post, May 25, 1907).

Lord Stranleigh is an amateur detective. He is the scion of an ancient and honored English family. But he is bored and filled with an indolent nonchalance. However, solving crimes and helping out family friends, and occasionally foiling foreign (Yellow Peril Japanese) espionage plots, piques Stranleigh’s interest and chases away his ennui.
