Stokes, Sheriff. Sheriff Stokes was created by Wayne Brooks and appeared in a number of stories in The Lone Ranger Magazine in 1937, beginning with “The Necktie Tree” (The Lone Ranger Magazine, Apr. 1937).
Neil Stokes is the older sheriff of Halfmoon Junction, in southeast Wyoming. He is cool, folksy, and speaks in a “hearty bass.” He has a “bulbous equator” and likes to wag his cigar as he talks. For all of that, however, he’s still capable when necessary. He is assisted by his deputy, Hank Glassick.
