Steele, Jim. Jim Steele was created by “Dana Chambers,” the pseudonym of Albert Leffingwell (Nile Boyd), and appeared in ten novels from 1939 to 1947, beginning with Some Day I’ll Kill You.
Jim Steele is an amateur detective who lives in New York City but whose cases take him around the East Coast of the United States. In his own words,
I am not a professional detective. Not even an amateur detective, really. I write radio thrillers rather successfully. It just so happens I have been pitchforked, literally, into situations which had got out of all control, and have been lucky enough to get surprisingly good breaks in straightening them around... I have, be it stated without either pride or regret, a quite insatiable intellectual curiosity.
During the war he was a spy and fought “bomb toting enemy agents, sadistic doctors, and double-crossing Nazi scientists” as well as master criminals.
