Stane, Sticky. Sticky Stane was created by C. Malcolm Hincks and appeared in six stories in Modern Boy in 1929, beginning with “Stane of the Starbeam Service” (Modern Boy, Oct. 5, 1929).

Peter “Sticky” Stane is a plucky young lad who leaves school and gets a job as a mechanic and chauffeur for his uncle, the wealthy Sir Humphrey Ralston, who owns the Starbeam Motor Works. Ralston hired Stane because he is cheerful, resolute and good with his hands, but Stane also has a nose for trouble and continually discovers and dispatches thieves and motor bandits.
