Smythe, Miss. Miss Smythe was created by “Achmed Abdullah,” the pseudonym of Alexander Romanoff (Omar the Black & Omar the Red, Mr. Vandewater), and appeared in six stories in Collier’s in 1926, beginning with “Miss Smythe of Sahara” (Collier’s, July 10, 1926).

Miss Smythe is a Con Man. A Yankee, she runs a shop in a town along a trading route in the Sahara, and fleeces the “lambs” who wander through it.
