Smyth, F. Millard. F. Millard Smyth was created by Eunice Boyd and appeared in Murder Breaks Trail (1943), Doom in the Midnight Sun (1944), and Murder Wears Mukluks (1945).
F. Millard Smyth begins as, in his words, “a graying, insignificant grocer from Four Corners, Nebraska, sharing a congressional committee’s holiday” in Alaska “at the whim of the Senator’s daughter.” But while there he encounters a mystery and a German agent, and ends up staying in Fairbluffs, Alaska, solving crimes as an amateur detective. He is modest, even bashful, but smart and observant.
