Slade, Nicholas. Nicholas Slade was created by R.C. Woodthorpe (Matilda Perks) and appeared in Silence of a Purple Shirt (1934) and Necessary Corpse (1939).

Nicholas Slade is a sixtyish British author and amateur detective. He is “an eminent author whose name was known to everybody, though his works, with one exception, were read by nobody.” Forty years ago he wrote a thriller which everyone read. Since then he has written thoughtful and “fanciful” works, and nobody has read them. He continues to write, however, and when, in the course of events, he becomes involved in a murder case, for example involving British fascists, he solves the case.
