Sister Ursula. Sister Ursula was created by “H.H. Holmes,” the pseudonym of William Anthony Parker White (Nick Noble, Fergus O’Breen, Dugg Quinby), and appeared in two stories and two novels from 1940 to at least 1946, beginning with Nine Times Nine.

Sister Ursula is a nun of middle age (although her age varies considerably depending on the story) who serves the Order of Saint Martha of Bethany. Unfortunately, murder and other evils disturb the cloistered life, including two locked-room murders, and Sister Ursula is called on to use her native wit, logic, and skills as a Wife of Christ to solve the crimes. Her police contact is Lieutenant Terence Marshall.
