Simon, Benjamin. Benjamin Simon was created by Gregory Dean and appeared in The Case of Marie Corwin (1933), The Case of the Fifth Key (1934), and Murder on Stilts (1939).
Benjamin Simon, former lawyer and publicist, is newly assigned to the N.Y.P.D. as Fourth Deputy Commissioner at the pleading of his friend, John Boyle, the senior partner at Simon’s firm. Fortunately, Simon proves to be a natural at guiding the police toward solving crimes. He is quiet and gives an impression of sternness, but “his greatest assets were a keen, analytical mind and a habit of drawing uncannily accurate inferences from the most trivial happenings.” He uses the police to do the legwork and he draws the conclusions (inevitably accurate) himself.
