Simon. Simon was created by Beatrice Grimshaw (Helen Pentecost, Cristina Raye, Vaiti) and appeared in six stories in The Popular Magazine in 1918, beginning with “When I Was Dead” (The Popular Magazine, Feb. 7, 1918).
Simon is a Jungle Hero. As a child Simon is captured by the natives of New Guinea and raised by them in the islands’ mountains. He is later rescued and returned to Europe, where he applies his skills to helping the Allies win World War One. Simon eventually returns to New Guinea and marries Grace Gordon, a white woman who, like Simon, had been kidnaped as a child and raised by the natives.
