Simmons, Baldy. Baldy Simmons was created by Jack Kofoed and appeared in thirty-five stories in a number of pulps from 1940 to 1950, beginning with “Penny Wise” (Thrilling Sports, Jan 1940).

Baldy Simmons, the “sage of Broadway,” is a hard-drinking, older, balding reporter in New York City. Simmons idolizes Sherlock Holmes and successfully applies his methods to solving crimes. Simmons is friends with a wide range of characters, including several lowlifes, but one of his best friends is Detective-Lieutenant Aloysius McCoy of the N.Y.P.D.
