Silver Skull. Silver Skull was created by Richard Howells Watkins (Outrageous O’Smith) and appeared in three stories in Detective Fiction Weekly in 1933 and 1934, beginning with “Silver Skull” (Detective Fiction Weekly, July 29, 1933).
Silver Skull is better known as Captain Roderick Hayle, formerly of the U.S. Air Service. Now he is known as “Rod Hayle” of the underworld, the supposed death of Captain Hayle, at the hands of a number of criminals, having been proclaimed across the nation. But Hayle survived and went underground, so that he could wage war on those criminals and ruin their lives before they died, either at their own hands or when Hayle kills them in self-defense. His archenemy is The Copper, “that elusive and terrible individual.”
