Silk, Steve. Steve Silk was created by James Brendan O’Sullivan and appeared in fourteen novels from 1945 to 1964, beginning with The Death Card.

Steve Silk is a Disabled Detective; he only has one lung. Despite this, he is an effective amateur detective: “he was both tough and smooth–and dangerous. He had no office and no license. He picked up cases by rubbing shoulders with people who had dough, and who wanted protection, or their innocence proved, or a killer nailed.” Silk makes use of his size, his skills as a boxer (he formerly fought professionally) and his native wit.
