Sheringham, Roger. Roger Sheringham was created by Anthony Berkeley (Ambrose Chitterwick) and appeared in four stories and ten novels from 1925 to 1953, beginning with The Layton Court Mystery.

The English Roger Sheringham is a twice-wounded veteran of World War One who began writing crime novels. He was successful at it, but then branched out into amateur detecting, at which he is successful without often being right in his (undeniably brilliant) deductions. Sheringham is conceited, talkative, abrasive, and rude. He is roly-poly and thinks little of his readers.
