Señor Red Mask. Señor Red Mask was created by Guy Maynard (Billy the Kid (I), Jim Tasker) and appeared in thirty-nine stories in Wild West Weekly from 1932 to 1943, beginning with “Señor Red Mask” (Wild West Weekly, Apr. 2, 1932).
Señor Red Mask is a Costumed Avenger Killer Vigilante. Tom Goodwin is the owner of the Bar G Ranch in the American Southwest. During a bandit raid on the ranch Tom’s father is killed, so Tom puts on a costume–black with a red velvet mask and silver spurs–and becomes “Señor Red Mask” to hunt down his father’s killers. When he finds them, he kills them and leaves behind a sprig of sagebrush on the bodies. To further his quest and gather information he adopts a second persona, that of “El Muchaco,” a poor Mexican youth who wanders from town to town, playing catchy Mexican songs on a battered guitar. Señor Red Mask’s archenemy is the bandit El Tigre. Red Mask rides the black horse Thunder.
