Saxe, Christopher. Christopher Saxe was created by Susan Shane and appeared in four novels from 1942 to 1946, beginning with Lady in Danger.
Christopher Saxe is a tall, thin, Long Island playboy whose wealthy father left him a fortune, “which he preferred to enjoy rather than augment.” He lives an indolent life, in the company of his pal, former bantamweight fighter Buzz Batterson. The two drink, chase women, and generally enjoy themselves. But occasionally they encounter murder and are forced to apply their booze-sodden wits to solving them. The police, in the person of Inspector Redfern of the N.Y.P.D. Homicide Squad, are only partially grateful, as Saxe irritates Redfern.
