Saotome Mondonosuke. Saotome Mondonosuke was created by the Japanese creator Takuji Furumi and appeared in thirty films from 1930 to 1963, beginning with Hatamoto Taikutsu Otoko.
Saotome Mondonosuke is a hatamoto, or samurai serving directly under the Shogun. He is known as both “the bored samurai,” because the only thing that entertains him is swordplay, and “the lord with the crescent-shaped scar,” because of a crescent-shaped scar on his forehead. Saotome is a master swordsman, and investigates many bad situations for the Shogun, from conspiracies to foreign spies. Saotome’s scar grants him the authority to kill with impunity, which he often does.
