Sallowby, Matthew. Matthew Sallowby was created by John Harris-Burland and appeared in six stories in The Premier Magazine from 1923 to 1924, beginning with “The Man with Brown Eyes” (The Premier Magazine, Sept. 1923).

Matthew Sallowby is a used book dealer in London. He is a tall, forbidding old man who is assisted, both in dealing books and in solving crimes, by his niece Joan, who provides all the enthusiasm that Sallowby lacks. The crimes Sallowby investigates are book related.
