Salis, Jo. Jo Salis was created by William O. Greener and appeared in sixteen short stories and two novels and short story collections in 1905, beginning with The Exploits of Jo Salis, a British Spy.

Jo Salis is an agent of the British Intelligence Department who is active in espionage and counter-espionage, around Europe and Asia and, during the Russo-Japanese War of 1905, in Port Arthur, posing as an English war correspondent. He is patriotic and is only partially successful in striking a balance between realism and his more jingoistic feelings.
