Saber, Joel. Joel Saber was created by “Gavin Holt,” the pseudonym of Charles Rodda (Professor Bastion, Professor Bisley, Bobseen, Derek Trent), and appeared in six novels from 1938 to 1947, beginning with The Theme is Murder.

Joel Saber is a retired Scotland Yard detective who has opened his own private detective agency. He is large, muscular, hard-drinking and pleasantly cynical.
