Ryder, Dick. Dick Ryder was created by H.B. Marriott Watson and appeared in thirty-six stories and four short story collections from 1895 to 1916, beginning with “The Quandary of the Bishop” (The New Review, Feb. 1895).
Dick Ryder is a Gentleman Bandit. He is known as “Galloping Dick, sometime Gentleman of the Road.” He is a highwayman in the 18th century and is a virtual duplicate of Claude Duval (I) and Dick Turpin.
