Rybnikov, Captain. Captain Rybnikov was created by the Russian author Alexander Kuprin and appeared in Shtabs-kapitan Rybnikov (1906).

Captain Rybnikov is a Yellow Peril. Rybnikov is a Japanese spy active in Moscow during the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905). He is “malicious, mocking, intelligent, even noble, but not human, animal instead, or more precisely of a face belonging to a being from a different planet.” Rybnikov disguises himself as an injured Russian veteran and acquires sensitive information about the war by visiting various war ministries and asking for a raise in his pension. He is brilliant at disguise, but he eventually betrays himself by speaking Japanese in his sleep. The Russian prostitute with him overhears him and informs on him.
