Ryan, Buck. Buck Ryan was created by Jack Monk and Don Freeman and appeared in the comic strip “Buck Ryan” in the newspaper The Daily Mirror from 1937 to 1962.

Buck Ryan is a young British private detective, brown-haired and two-fisted, who battles crime and evil wherever he finds it, whether the criminals are kidnapers, salmon smugglers, German spies, or more interesting villains, like the acid-scarred crime boss Twilight. Ryan has a habit of taking in reformed villainesses as his sidekicks. He replaces his first teenaged assistant, Skipper, with his Loving Enemy, the thief Zola Andersen, and they become romantically involved. Much later, Twilight becomes Buck's "assistant."
