Rocafort, Diego. Diego Rocafort was created by the Spanish author Antonio Altadill and the Spanish director Alberto Marro and starred in the novel Barcelona y sus misterios (1860) and a film serial (1915) of the same name.
In a reprise of The Count of Monte Cristo, a young man named Diego Rocafort is in love with a young woman, Clara, but is kidnaped by a rival for Clara’s affections and sold into slavery. He escapes, finds a fortune, and returns to Barcelona bent on getting both Clara and revenge. Adventures influenced by The Exploits of Elaine (see: Elaine Dodge) follow.
