Rhodes, Rocky. Rocky Rhodes was created by “Dane Gregory,” the pseudonym of Ormond Robbins, and appeared in five stories in Dime Mystery Magazine from 1939 to 1941, beginning with “Mr. Nemo’s Crazy Killers” (Dime Mystery Magazine, Oct. 1939).
Rocky Rhodes is a private detective in Seaport City, on the American west coast. He is actually former cop Ted Tarrant, who “bounced himself into a hole-proof murder frame when he wouldn’t play deaf, dumb and blind for a crew of racketeers. I could forget that the rookie cop had crushed out of the Montana stone hotel after spending five lonesome years in a room without a view.”
