Reed, Lal. Lal Reed was created by Clement Wood (Inspector Colin, King Green, Skelton Keyne) and appeared in Death in Ankara (1944) and Death on the Pampas (1944).

Laura “Lal” Reed is the daughter of an American Senator who entered the American espionage service and entered Algiers shortly after the Americans landed there during World War Two. Throughout the rest of the war she worked behind enemy lines against the Germans and Japanese, accompanied by Nigel Gernon, of British espionage. Although Gernon is capable, Reed is much more so–beautiful, skilled, well-trained, and always composed, as well as a good shot. Reed is engaged to a Naval lieutenant but maintains a vigorous flirtation with Gernon.
