Rald. Rald was created by Clifford Ball and appeared in “The Thief of Forthe” (Weird Tales, July 1937) and “The Goddess Awakes” (Weird Tales, Feb. 1938).

Rald is a barbarian warrior modeled on Conan. Rald is the “prince among thieves.” He “had known the clash of steel in combat; convincing proofs of this were the great scars that crossed one another over many parts of his naked flesh.” He is a cursing, brawling, drinking barbarian, hard, ambitious, and gritty, but cunning and more interested in gold than in fighting or wenching. He wears only a breech-clout and sandals, although his hair is bound in the back by a thin gold chain. He uses a slender sword to kill.
