Race, Ed. Ed Race was created by Emile C. Tepperman (Marty Quade, Suicide Squad, Nick Valentine) and appeared in fifty-five stories in The Spider and Strange Detective Mysteries from 1934 to 1943, beginning with “Amateur Night–For Killers” (The Spider, Sept. 1934).
Ed Race is a Bellem. He is an amateur detective whose day job is professional juggling—he tours the country as the "Masked Marksman," packing houses nation-wide and wowing them wherever he goes. The act for which he is most known is juggling six .45 automatics and performing various shooting tricks with them. But Race has a taste for excitement which juggling and performing can’t satisfy, so he begins investigating crimes as a hobby.
