Quick-Draw Kid. The Quick-Draw Kid was created by George Gilbert (Kyack Kearney) and appeared in six stories in Western Story Magazine and one novel from 1926 to 1929, beginning with “The Quick-Draw Kid” (Western Story Magazine, Mar. 13, 1926).
The Quick-Draw Kid grew up in Chicago and learned to sling hash in a five-cent diner. He left Chicago and went to work for the International Packing Company and cooks for them on their wagon trains. He’s known as the “Quick-Draw Kid” because of the speed of his cooking and serving: “he’s a machine-gun food slinger.” He leaves the Company and goes to work for the Box 9 Ranch and fights Mexicans along the way.
