Pym, Palmyra. Palmyra Pym was created by Nigel Morland (John Finnegan, Johnny Lamb, Michael Tandy, John Yardley) and appeared in twelve stories and twenty-three novels and short story collections from 1935 to 1969, beginning with Moon Murders.

Palmyra Pym is a widow in her fifties who begins as an agent of the Shanghai Municipal Police and then goes to work for Scotland Yard. She is resolutely independent, thinks little of other people, has no use for civil rights, and flouts the rules and authority when she chooses. She is also a knowledgeable and clever detective, active both in China and around the world. She is assisted by Chief Inspector Shott and by newspaper reporter Dick Loddon.
