Puck. Puck was created by Rudyard Kipling and appeared in ten stories in The Strand in 1906, beginning with “Weland’s Sword” (The Strand, Jan. 1906); the stories were collected in Puck of Pook’s Hill (1906).

Dan and Una, pair of siblings, are rehearsing for their parts in a school production of Midsummer’s Night Dream when they repeat the play three times, on Midsummer’s Eve, in the middle of a ring of darkened grass, on Pook’s Hill. This awakens Puck–the Puck–and he takes a liking to Dan and Una and tells them a variety of stories about old England, from how Weland the God became Wayland the Smith to the true fate of the Picts.
