Polo, Eddy (II). Eddie Polo (1875-1961) was one of the giants of the silent film era; he was known as the “Hercules of the Screen” and was internationally famous. In the early 1920s he was the hero of two German Celebrity Pulps, Der Zirkuskönig, Eddy Polo #1-6 (1922), and Eddy Polo Serie #1-58 (1923-1924); the latter series was reprinted in Poland in 1924 and 1925.
The fictional Eddy Polo (II) is a circus owner and adventurer, wandering around the world alone or with his circus and helping innocents and fighting crime. He is helped by his wife Helena. Together, they encounter and/or fight the Band of the Red Rose, “The Secret of the Mummy Riders,” the Band of Three, an antisemitic stereotype, a female vampire, and a Yellow Peril.
Polo appears in stories with titles like “The Rancho El Dorado War,” “The Uncanny League,” and “Under the Auto’s Brakes.”
