Piper, Peter. Peter Piper was created by Nancy Barr Mavity and appeared in five novels from 1929 to 1932, beginning with The Tule Marsh Murder.
Peter Piper is the crime-solving reporter for the Herald. He is bright, and studies law in his off-hours, “but his office vocabulary was strictly in the vernacular.” “The stimulus of doing difficult things was the wine of life to him. Like all reporters, he affected to be blase and cynical,” but “it was really a game to him, played with immense and carefully concealed gusto.”
