Pike, Mulehide. Mulehide Pike was created by “Gunnison Steele,” the pseudonym of Ben Gardner (Tonto Kid (II)), and appeared in a number of stories in 10 Story Western Magazine in 1939, beginning with “Free Badges for Renegades” (10 Story Western Magazine, Mar. 1939).

Mulehide Pike is the aging sheriff of the town of Hondo, somewhere in the American southwest. Pike is a “runty, grizzled lawman” and is not as quick as he once was, but he is quite capable of manipulating outlaws into killing each other.
